I had a pap test that came back with pre-cancerous cells. I've never had this to happen. I have gone thru menopause and am 50 years old.   Now I have to go see a GYN doctor. What will happen next?

Hello

Most likely they will first do what is called a cone biopsy. This is to take a little piece of your cervix to examine it closer. Usually the treatment is a procedure where your cervix is frozen. This allows the pre-cancerous cells to die and fall off. There is very little discomfort associated with it.

It means you have cells on your cervix that could turn into cancer. It's great that it was caught early!

No, it means you will need to have a biopsy which can be done right in the doctors office. Depending on the results of that, will determine the next step. Most likely you will need to have your cervix frozen, which is done in the doctors office as well.
