Sent to Health Experts November 27, 2007 1:51 p.m.

I have been having my menstrual cycle for almost a month now. The flow has been so heavy that I have pretty much been in the bathroom every 1-2 hours every day since it started. For the past two days, my hands have been so purple that they almost look black. I don't know if the two are related, but I'm beginning to get worried because I am beginning to feel so fatigued that I can't exercise.

Hello,

Menorrhagia is the medical term for excessive or prolonged menstrual bleeding or both .It can be caused by a variety of causes like Uterine fibroids ,hormone imbalance ,ovarian cyst, polyps etc to name a few.

Ideally the cause of prolonged bleeding should be further evaluated by a gynecologist .

Also feeling fatigued may be suggestive of anaemia due to blood loss.

So you may be advised iron supplementation after appropriate blood work.

Purple hands suggest peripheral cyanosis .Cyanosis is a severe condition indicating a lack of oxygen in the blood supply .

The symptoms suggests that you need immediate medical attention ASAP .
