It may be a fungal infection. At this point clean the area well with antibacterial soap and apply some Lotrimin cream to the area. Don't wear any tight clothing. Actually wear something loose or something that you can allow it to get air as well and keep clean. It may be hormones that are increasing during menstruation that is causing it to bleed during menstruation, but it may still be infected. So use the cream listed above, after cleaning the area well. Continue to use the cream for 2 weeks as this helps promote killing of the fungus. If there is no change at all, you may need a course of antibiotics.

It may not be so much as infection as it is a yeast/fungal infection. Which can occur when hormones are increased. Just as a vaginal yeast infection can occur when there is a change in hormones. Which trying the cream won't hurt, and if there is a fungal infection involved, then this will help. Now just saying it's not related to any type of infection, unless you have some kind of hernia for the bleeding only to occur during menstruation, then there should be a constant drainage of some kind, if there is any kind of opening. I don't know if there is a lot of blood, or it's just dripping slightly draining blood, but relating this to an increase in hormones, would make more sense. But try what I had mentioned above, and see if there is any change when your next cycle comes on. Use the cream for at least 2 weeks, which if it's fungal related, 2 weeks should cure it.

Also, have you ever cleaned the belly button out with a q-tip? Is there an odor on the q-tip after? That may give you a better idea as well.

Hope this helps Hun

Endometriosis is the disease to which you are referring, and it involves endometrial tissue (the tissue that normally lines the uterus and during your cycle generates the blood flow) in abnormal sites. Most often this is somewhere else inside the pelvis or abdomen, but very rarely it can also be outside, and you could have this in your belly button.

Because it is endometrial tissue, like the tissue in your uterus, it responds to the hormonal changes of your cycle, and when you bleed during your cycle, this tissue as well could produce blood. So you may have endometriosis, and that tissue in your belly button may be endometrial tissue, and that is why it would produce blood during your cycle.

You need to see a physician, probably your gynecologist again. Endometriosis can become problematic if not treated properly, as the endometrial tissue can show up elsewhere in the pelvis and abdomen and cause problems there. It sounds like that it is more of a nuisance than anything else, and so your gyn might provide treatment for that.

I hope this answers your question. Take care.
