I went to a regular hospital with a panic attack and I was upset, they knew it, they knew not to tell my boyfriend when I decided to check into a mental hospital. However, they proceeded to tell my boyfriend to check with the local mental health authorities when he called them! I want to sue the hospital. How do I go about this?

Greetings Customer (name blocked for privacy),

I understand your frustration with the unacceptable sharing of private information that has occurred. The first thing I strongly suggest you do is contact the Patient Advocacy department of the hospital to discuss the situation which is a clear violation of HIPPA/Protected Health Information. After contacting the hospital, I would call the Department of Health and Human Services (click the link) Office for Civil Rights (OCR) at Tel: 202-619-0257. If you choose to take this further, you can call a malpratice lawyer in your area (enter "Malpractice lawyer and the name of your county in a search engine such as google).

Sincerely,

Dr.Bernon
