I'm a 38 year old female that is generally in good health. Until late last summer when I started having abdominal pains and was extremely tired all the time. I was so tired that I was afraid to go anywhere thinking that I might night be able to drive home because I would get so tired. I went to my family doctor and he did some blood work and a lower GI. The blood work came back with a slightly elevated wbc and the lower GI came back normal. I was diagnosed with IBS. I didn't agree with this diagnosis. I went back to my family doctor complaining again and got no where so I went to my GYN and he told me that this was not a GYN problem and said I need to go back to my family doctor and would write him a letter telling him that I saw him and that he felt this problem was not a GYN problem but something that should be followed through with my family doctor. I went back and got no where again. He just said that it was IBS and told me to take fiber. 4 months later I was on a trip in Florida and the pain go so bad that I couldn't even walk so I went to the emergency room where they did a CT scan and found out that I had several stones stuck together in my urethra and a bladder infection. One of the stones was 5mm. The doctor said I'm not telling you you need to fly home asap but you need to take care of this right when you get back home. They sent me home with pain meds, antibotics and a strainer. I called my doctor back home asap to schedule an appointment for when I got back but they told me they were booked up for 2 week, even considering my cercumstances. I I spent 2 weeks in extreme pain and on constant pain meds. I called them several times telling them that I was in alot of pain but they did nothing. When I finally got to see the doctor It was another week before he did the surgury. He placed a stent in me that was very painful and I had grossly amounts of very thick blood everytime I went to the bathroom. My husband took me to the emergency room because we felt this just wasn't right. I know you can have some discomfort and bleeding but not as much as I was having. The nurse seemed alarmed when she saw my urine sample and called my doctor. He told her to send me home and he would see me in his office the next morning. He had me give him another sample and agreed this was alot of blood but keeped it in. I felt it should have been removed. When he did remove it he had a hard time getting it out and stuck a sissors in me (yes, a sissors) to grasp it and pinched me inside. Sense then I had an appointment with an internal specialist because of a lession on my liver that they found when doing the CT scan. He told me do you know you have permenent kidney damage from your kidney stone. My question is did one of theses doctors do something wrong? I feel I just wasn't taken care of like I should have been am I correct? Should this stone have been taken out right away instead of waiting 3 weeks and should the stent have been removed sooner? I am afraid of what I might experience with these other stones and possable getting more kidney damage.
