My son who is in very good athletic shape sprained or twisted his ankle yesterday and now it is swollin and hurts what should he be doing for it. My wife is a nurse and told him to stay off it and ice it, the football trainer told him to keep walking on it and that he should not need a brace or crutches? What should he be doing?

Hello

I agree whole heartedly with mom. Ice, rest, elevate. The only thing I would add is motrin or advil to help the inflammation and any discomfort.

That said, there are some stretching exercises that can be done to help strengthen the ankle and get it back into good working order.

These should be started gently at first and increasing as tolerated.

What do you think of the sports trainers answere?
He suggested to keep walking on it to get back in shape but it was more swollin after 2 hours of walking on it?
