Fathers Foot

My father has a swollen foot, it is not black and blue it is just swollen. It hurts for him to walk or put pressure on it and he is barely able to put his shoes on it is so swollen. He has had mulitple xrays and they have found nothing. They have done an MRI and found nothing. They took his acid levels and said that the levels were too low to be gout.
Any ideas?
