Hi, I am so glad I can get some help before going to my doc. My period was due on Nov. 19th but a week before on the 12th. I started spotting. I have been spotting since then, up until today I am still spotting. This has never happened before. Usually my periods are 5 to 7 days and around the 3rd and 4th day are really heavy but this month it has been only spotting for almost 2 weeks and that's what concerns me.
I have been trying to conceive so on the 12th when i saw I was spotting I thought it was implant bleeding. I waited until yesterday to do a pregnancy test and it came up negative.
I thank you in advance for the help.

Implantation bleeding occurs a bit earlier than expected, and it is scanty, spotty, pinkish and not red and heavy like a period, and does not follow the normal pattern of a period (light to heavy to light). However, it usually doesn't last for a week. If you have other symptoms, then I would test for pregnancy. The best time to test is at least two weeks after a missed period, and a blood test done by your doctor is the most accurate way of testing. Other reasons for period abnormalites include stress, weight gain/loss, thyroid, hormonal imbalance, infection, illness, medications, polyp, cyst, amongst other reasons. If the blood pregnancy test comes back negative, your doctor can do further testing to determine the exact cause.

Thank you for your reply. My concern was the abnormality of my period and what can cause it.
This had never happened before. I am sure that I am not pregnant but do you think that any of these reasons that can cause an abnormal periods can be a drawback for me not to get pregnant?
Thank you once again.

If you have regular periods, then most likely ovulation is occurring and pregnancy is possible. If you have irregular periods, then it may be harder to get pregnant. The only way to know fertility status, would be to see your doctor for an evaluation. Your doctor can check your hormone levels via blood test, and look for any abnormality via a pelvic exam. Typically a year of trying and not being successful warrants for both you and your partner to get checked out by your doctors, and possibly referrral to a fertility specialist.
