DOES HAVING AN IV CAUSE YOUR HANDS AND FEET AND LEGS ?

my husband has kidney stones they did a lipotripsy and he had complications they had to do surgry on him and put a stent in his kidney but could not get the stent in so they used a wire with a cathiter ,well he has been on an iv since thursday will that make his hands and feet and legs swell up .they tell me that is all normal but I have had iv's in the past and never swelled up like that.
