Deviation from a "norm" is a reason for a referral for two reasons. First is that such deviations can indeed be a useful indicator of something being wrong that is not otherwise detected. Secondly, (if you will pardon the cynacism) you should be aware that the pediatrician may be thinking that he would be liable for malpractice if he didn't refer her for evaluation.
Most likely you are correct and nothing will be found. You need to decide if the trouble and expense associated with getting the evaluation exceeds the (admittedly very small) chance of something being found.
