hi..I have a four year old toddler that has a peanut shaped bump at the base of his skull..above the spine. He pointed it out to me yesterday...he would not say how he got it, but we suspect by jumping and falling...he says he needs "medicine" because it hurts, but it is not interrupting his normal activities...he is playing, taking normally. He is not listless and doesn't seem in great pain...should I take him to emergency, or wait until tomorrow for his pediatrician? Should I apply ice or heat? thanks

Hello,

It is probably tender and he of course notices. As he is acting normally, playing and happy, I would ice it today if he allows it, give him some Tylenol and seek a consult from his pediatrician in the morning.

Keep an eye on him for any changes or swelling, which would be an indication to take him to the ER today for an evaluation.

Please let me know if you have any other questions.
