Hi! A couple of questions:

1) Is she having trouble breathing?

2) Does the inside of her mouth/inside of lips seem dry?

3) Does her stomach seem bloated or distended?

4) have you given her any medications?

5) Any possibility of head injury?

let me know so that I may better assist you! Donna RN

1. No, breathing seems normal for sleeping.
2. Lips and mouth are wet and slobbery ( teething )
3. Tummy feels fine.
4. I gave her 1/4 tsp triminac nighttime for her runny nose. She had vomited once b4 I gave her the meds.
5. not to my knowledge. She has been with me for the past 3 hours. Before that my 6yr. old was holding her, but I was watching. Other than a little bouncing, not much movement really at all.
6. I did give her some Carnation Good Start formula from a bottle, she took 1 oz. about 3 hours ago. This was her first formula, as she is breastfed, but I was hoping to start her on the bottle soon. It was liquid concentrate, mix 50/50 with water. She also tried Applesause for the first time. No other feeding changes.

HI! I suspect that the vomiting is a combination of the carnation formula mixed with the runny nose (mucous), and possibly some tummy upset from the new food and formula. Here are my suggestions:

1) keep watching her tonight. She should be fine.

2) If she continues to vomit, does not wet a diaper in 4-6 hours or her mouth seems dry, she should be seen for dehydration.

3) In the future, be sure not to introduce more than one new item to her diet every three days....this makes it easier to determine when she has a reaction to a new food.

4) You may want to introduce the formula by either 1- mixing it a little weaker than 50/50 for the first few times, or 2-even better, mix it 50/50 with a little breast milk....tapering the breastmilk until it is all formula (prepared 50/50).

5) There is always a chance that she is sensitive to the lactose or the milk, in which case a soy formula may be appropriate. I recommend getting your pediatrician recommendation before switching formulas.....as frequent formula changes can cause intestinal distress, making it hard to evaluate what is causing the problems.

6) I would not give her any more of the formula until tomorrow, when you can see that she is no longer vomiting.....offering breastmilk, water or pedialyte instead.

let me know if you need more information! Donna RN

One more thing, since she takes the breastmilk so well, can she be lactose intolerant. I mean, if she was lactose int., would she have a reaction to the breast milk too? You are right about the 2 new things though, I didn't even think about formula being new.

Awesome. Thank you so much for easing my mind. I don't think we will go with formula again for a bit.
