My 8 year old son was complaining of abdominal pain so I told him to use the bathroom and then go to bed. He did fall asleep, but then 30 min later I heard him pass gas; at least I think that is what it was. I then heard him throw up in bed. I ran to his room to check on him and tell him to get up but he wouldnt. I was yelling his name and he wouldnt respond.I dragged him to the bathroom because he still needed to throw up, and he still wouldnt respond. His eyes were open but they were looking somewhere else. He wouldnt even stand by himself. I finally stripped him down to get the clothes off him, and then he started shaking, still no response. After about 5 min he finally said what mom, and then i was able to get him on the couch and into some pajamas, now hes really cold and shivering. Why does this happen to him; and what does it mean? Please Help!!!

It sounds as though he may have had a seizure, which can cause the state of unawareness he was displaying, as well as the shaking and trembling. In some cases of extreme pain this can be known to occur without it being a seizure from the intense pain and that seems like is the case with him. You would know it if he had ever had a seizure unless this is his first one. In some cases they can become a regular occurance and need medication to help control them, but then if it happens to occur when in extreme pain or stress they may not happen again or happen for months on end. You really do need to have him seen for an examination, bloodwok and if his abdominal pain continues an MRI to determine if he is having problems with his intestional tract. It could have partly happened because he was sleeping when the vomiting occured but I would not take any chances. For now monitor him closely for any other symptoms that could be the sign that he needs further evaluation but honestly I highly recommend you call his pediatrician in the morning to let them know what occured as I am sure they will want to see him for a full examination and bloodwork.
