Female, age 63 on Fosamax once a week for four years. Following first year stress fracture third metatarsal left foot. Three years later stress fracture second metatarsal left foot following 4 1/2 months physical therapy for plantar fascitis and walked for 40 minute duration [no speed walk]. Felt a strain on top of foot, then two weeks later felt pain and diagnosed with fracture. Bone density tests reveal hip and spine to be within normal limits --I think the wrist was evidencing mild ostopenia. Last test done 2005.
Otherwise healthy no heart nor other organ problems. Post menopausal since age 50.
Q - Could Fosamax be the cause of stress fracture in the foot since I have seen reports of stress fractures occurring elsewhere in the body?
Q - Should I stop Fosamax and begin taking Calcium? If so, what kind, combination and dosage of Calcium would be recommended?
Q - Should I add certain food groups to my diet. Presently I do not have any milk intake as I believe I might be lactose intolerant altho I do eat lite cheese.
