Question

problem with the bottom of my foot

Sent to Health Experts August 22, 2006 12:35 a.m.

I have a problem with the bottom of my foot that feel like I am walking on a hard core and when I pick at it, I get the tiniest of white little cores off of the top layers of this what seems like a deeper core-like feeling under the skin. After I get the little tiny white cores picked off, it relieves some of the immediate pain, but they always reappear and come back and then I pick them off again and so on. I also wonder if you think it is OK to put a drawing salve on the picked on area as it exposes a deeper layer of the skin. I can't pick too deep, or it will hurt, but I pick it as deep as possible. It is, of course, callus like skin as well, but I soak it and keep it softened as possible and put neosporin on it and bandages to cover. Any ideas, or suggestions?   I plan on going to a podiatrist, but I have had this for over a year now, and have just learned to live with it. I also have a bone spur on my knee of the same leg and when I'm really tired I have pains all up and down the groin area and hip. I always feel like popping my bones and I try to relax the muscles and such as much as possible and, like I said, I have just learned to live with it. I am 55 years old, and I walk around 10-14 miles a day on my job as a warehouse order filler.

Hello

It sounds to me like you have a plantar's wart. If this is the case, drawing fluid won't help.

I'm glad you will be seeing a podiatrist for true examination to rule this out.

Does a plantar's wart have to be on top of the skin or can it be beneath the skin, because the only picture I have seen of one shows it above the skin and in a cluster and describes it as always having dark spots or dots on it as the seeds of it. Mine is not above the the skin and has no dard spots on it at all. Do you still think it could be a plantar's wart and would it hurt the area in anyway if I went ahead and tried the drawing salve?

Plantars warts are under the skin. They are like icebergs. If you see anything at the top of the skin, it is much larger underneath. I really don't know enough about drawing salve to know how it will react on your feet. You will want to ask your doctor or a pharmacist about this.

If it is a plantar wart, it probably won't do any good, but I don't think it will hurt either.
