Fortaz 2 gm Iv is ordered twice a day for a patient with pneumonia. It is supplied in 50ml dextrose and water, to run over 30 minutes.

1) how many drops per minute should be delivered if tubing with a drop factor of 10 (15 drops per ml) is used?

2) if a pump is available, how many ML per hour should the nurse set the pump to deliver?

what formula's would you use to solve this problem.

Hi Customer (name blocked for privacy).

Fortaz 2 gm Iv is ordered twice a day for a patient with pneumonia. It is supplied in 50ml dextrose and water, to run over 30 minutes.

1)
50ml dextrose and water, to run over 30 minutes.

That is 50 ml x 15 drops/ ml = 750drops (over 30 minuts)

Which is 750 / 30 = 25 (drops / minute)

The answer is 25 drops per minute should be delivered if tubing with a drop factor of 10 (15 drops per ml) is used.

2)

50ml dextrose and water, to run over 30 minutes, which is 0.5 hour.

Thus:

50 ml / 0.5 hour = 100 ( ml /hour)

The answer is:

if a pump is available, 100 ML per hour should the nurse set the pump to deliver.

The formula is

50 ml / 0.5 hour = 100 ( ml / hour)
