Question

I have had several positive home pregnancy tests this week, ...

Sent to Health Experts July 21, 2006 9:52 p.m.

I have had several positive home pregnancy tests this week, beginning on 7/15. On 7/20, I went to my PCP and had a urine and serum test done. The urine test came back negative and the serum test came back with a reading of 9 mIU/ML and I was told that this was "borderline" pregnant - that to be deemed "pregnant" I had to receive at last a "10." I am to go back for another serum test on 7/24.

What scares me is that I took another HPT tonight and it was negative.

Is it possible that my HCG levels are fluxuating and that I am still pregnant? I have not bled at all.

Some background:

The first day of my last period was 6/20 and my partner and I had intercourse on 7/3, 7/4 and 7/5.

I did have some brown spotting on about 7/13 - but very very light.

I have felt "twinges" in my lower abdomen for about the last 10 days.

I feel bloated. Have a constant headache. My breasts are very swollen.

I am constipated and have been so for about a week now.

And, I am a bit qweesy off and on and also have terrible bad breathe.

Because I am having to wait til Monday until my next serum test, any thoughts from you would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

Home pregnancy tests aren't the greatest as far as accuracy is concerned, so a blood test is the best. Typically a positive pregnancy test shows 5 or greater. About 24-28 days after your last period, it will be as much as 100. During early pregnancy, the hCG level in the blood doubles every two to three days. So when you have a repeat test done, there should be an increase in the numbers. Brown discharge typically means old blood that the body is just trying to get rid of, so unless there is an odor, this is pretty normal and nothing to worry about.

Thank you for your reply. I'm not sure, however, if my questions was answered and/or addressed.

What I am wondering is if it possible to be pregnant (knowing the information you do about me) and have such a low hCG level at this stage (after having positive HPT)???
