Sent to Health Experts September 03 12:20 AM

i have been taking estrostep since march and my peroids have become so light that it is like they aren't even happening. The last one lasted a day and there was a light tint of pink and a little tissue. I first noticed this problem after i had skipped the placebos and went right into the next week again. I have been taking them as i remeber them and usually every day but sometimes i forget and take them 2 at a time. I have had unprotected sex but not recently. I have no other symptoms but could i be pregnant??

Hello,

Since you have been missing your pills occasionally, there is a chance that you may be pregnant. If the last period (the very light one) is more than 7 days now, please take a home pregnancy test. The home pregnancy test checks for the presence of a hormone called HCG whle birth control pills contain hormones called estrogen and progesterone. So, if you are not pregnant, the test will be negative even if you are on birth control pills.

It is also possible that the light periods are due to irregular taking of the pills and not due to pregnancy. Please take a pregnancy test fro confirmatin.

I hope this helps.

Hello,

It is possible that not taking the placebos is causing the light periods. The placebos are meant to give your body time to lower the hormonal levels enough to cause periods. It is only when the hormonal level has decreased to a certain level that proper periods can occur. Your not taking the placebos has caused the hormonal levels to remain high all the time, preventing proper blood flow during the periods.

This is also not safe for you and can cause hormonal imbalances later on.

If the urine pregnancy test is negative, please take a blood pregnancy test. If that too is negative, then you are unlikely to be pregnant. In that case, please stop taking birth control pills completely for at least 6 months and allow your body to come back to normal. This will prevent hormonal imbalances in future. Take another contraceptive like condoms during this period. You can restart birth control pills after 6 months.

I hope this helps.

Hi,

Please take a pregnancy test (both urine and blood) now. Only if it is negative can you plan what birth control to take.

Ideally the body needs time to get back to normal and the hormones to be stabilized. So a gap of 6 months or at least 3 months are necessary.

Taking the placebos will probably not help now.

I hope this helps.
