I'm 21 and have been married for almost 7 months

I'm 21 and have been married for almost 7 months now. My husband and I decided to try for a baby 3 months ago and nothing has happened. I have crazy periods anyway so it's kind of hard to know what to expect every month. This month my perod is late which is normal sometimes but I noticed a little bit of spotting today and have experinced some pains that I have never had before. What could this be?
