I took clomid 100mg on days 3-7 of my cycle. I am normally very regular (28 day cycle), however, it is now day 33 and I still don't have my period. I did a HPT on day 31 and it was negative? Is it common for clomid to delay periods?

Clomid can disrupt periods, however it is still early days for a pregnancy test, so it may we worth waiting a few more days and taking another test, or ask your doctor to run a blood test as this is more accurate. If your period starts in the next few days it may be heavier than normal. This is a usual response with clomid so do not be alarmed.

Can Clomid stop my period so that I need a drug to induce it?

No, it shouldn't do in the normal case. It can actually cause spotting and heavy periods and is mainly used in treatment of fertility problems especially where there is an absence of periods.

However the underlying condition which is related to your need for clomid may be a factor. I also think we are still at an early stage here and if you have had unprotected intercourse then pregnancy is still a possibility, and we should behave as if you were pregnant until your period starts or a blood test from your doctor proves absence of pregnancy hormone.

Thanks for the info. I repeated another HPT today (day 33 of my cycle), it was an early response one and it was still negative?! I'm very confused as to why my period has not begun?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. Helen.

clomid (clomiphene) is a drug which we call 'anto-oestrogen'. It works by preventing a negative feedback system of hormones resulting in induced ovulation. Its quite a complex relationship of hormones involved in ovulation and then menstruation so disruption to normal cycle is not unexpected. If you were to continue without a period for another couple of weeks and pregnancy was not the cause then you could ask your doctor to run blood hormone levels.

It obviously makes it difficult to predict when the next fertile phase will be so you will have to work with your doctor to calculate this.
