How accurate are home pregnancy tests?

My husband and I have been trying to conceive for 5 months. Is it likely that I am pregnant when the first home pregnancy test came up positive and the second one I took this morning (2 days after the first test) came up negative? My period is due in two days (I'm going on a 28 day cycle). I have had some cramping in my lower abdomen in the last two days - no spotting or anything though.
