Sent to Health Experts October 23, 2006 6:53 p.m.

HI, I have been having an exsesive amount of vaginal discharge that appears normal in color and odor, but I have also missed a menstrual cycle. This is week 3 without a cycle, but I have taken a pregnancy test two weeks ago and it said no. I've also had, headaches, lower back pain, slight constipation, and lower adomibal pain sort of like cramping as though a cycle could give you. I was hoping I could get advice on this, do you know what this may be or lead me in the right direction please. I had one doctor say that it may be stress or the after affects of mono, but I didnt feel confident in their answer. Thank you.

Fire starter,

It's possibly it could be signs of pregnancy. As it was way too early to test to get a definitive answer, I would see your doctor for a blood pregnancy test as this is the most accurate way of testing. The best time to test is at least two weeks after a missed period. Two weeks gives the body enough time to produce an adequate amount of pregnancy hormone that is detected by a test. Other reasons for period abnormalities include stress, weight gain/loss, thyroid, hormonal imbalance, infection, illness, medications, polyp, cyst, amongst other reasons. If the blood pregnancy test comes back negative, your doctor can do further testing to determine what the exact cause may be.

I havent had any symptoms related to pregnancy, like the breast swelling or nausia... do those things come later or could the after affects of the mono be causing these things?

Fire starter,

Not everyone experiences signs of pregnancy other than a missed period, so it is a possibility.
When pregnancy signs do occur, they can occur either at the time of a missed period, or a week or two later. As far as mono is concerned, symptoms only last for up to 3 weeks after the onset of symptoms.
