i am 14 weeks pregnant and have a preexisting back problem. i have spasms, and have been in bed for 1 week now in terrific pain.Is there anything other than tylenol that i can take until this pain leaves? Or is the only thing tylenol? i cant walk, work, or do anything but be in bed. It is not getting any better, and i wonder who can i go to for some help?

Hi

Backache is one of the most common problems for pregnant women. Nearly half of all women have back pain at some point during pregnancy.

You can follow these tips-

1. Posture- Try to keep your hips pulled forward and your back straight

2. Footwear. Wear low-heeled shoes with good arch support. Avoid wearing high heels

3. Sleeping- Sleep on your side instead of your back. Tuck a pillow between your legs when lying on your side

4. A heating pad, warm water bottle or cold compress can help ease backache

5. It is not adviced to take painkiller medications, frequently, in pregnancy.

If severity of pain is not relived by these tips and painkillers , then consult Orthopaedics doctor for evaluation.

Hope it helped.

Take care
