the period is usually anovulatory (no ovulation) on the pill but with the hormones the uterus sitll builds up then sheds a lining at the time of menses. if you are pregnant and contiue the pill (which is contraindicated) you might have some irregular bleeding but the placenta eventually secretes its own hormones to prevent the uterine lining from shedding. when you do the "fake" week of the pill the progesterone level is still high enough in the body that you shouldnt bleed.
early pregnancy bleeding can be hormonal, sign of a msicarriage, infection, or what is called implantation bleeding (trauma from the embryo implanting in the uterine wall).
if you think youre pregnant and are on the pill stop it and calll your dr for a test.
