Question

SCH

Sent to Health Experts November 23, 2007 4:46 p.m.

Hi. Does dark spotting in pregnancy mean that Subchorionic hematoma is healing? I am at week 13, and was diagnosed with SCH at week 8. I had passed some clots and bled but all my ultrasounds showed my twins growing up healthily, and my SCH shrinking. Now I am still spotting dark colored blood, and in the morning this dark brown color sometimes shows when I am peeing, and it is not 100% liquid. Could you please advise?

When was your last scan?

Have you passed any clots?

How extensive was your SCH?

I am not qualified to comment on your scan pictures.

Have you passed any clots?

When did the bleeding start?

I passed one clot a couple of days after the scan, but my Dr. said not to worry and wait for the scheduled ultrasound due next week. Since then I am not having any bleeding, but rather dark blood spotting. It's been a week now that I can feel my twins moving inside me.

That is good.

Passing dark clots is associated with poor outcomes so as you do not have this problem it is reasonable to assume that you are one of the 73% of women who will have a good outcome.

As mentioned passing lots of dark clots and having a very large SCH is the worst scenario.

Your own Drs advice is sound.

Good luck.

Dr Jef

What about the clot I passed at week 11? Could this only be my SCH resolving as I read in one forum? Is feeling movements inside my womb a positive sign?

Hi

Yes - the movement is very positive.

I think we do not need to worry about one clot last week.

With a SCH the blood is either absorbed by the body or works it way out.

I would be more worried if you were continuing to pass clots.
