we have been trying to get pregnant now since October 2007. We are both 30 and healthy and my wife was going to get the HSG test on Friday and it is going to cost about $1200. Are we jumping the gun on this test? She has not been on birth control for years and is ovulating, per the ovulation tests. she is just freaking that we are not pregnant yet. advice???

Hello,

You are going the right way in planning an HSG and no, you are not jumping the gun.

Theoretically, infertlity tests are usually advised when a couple has been trying to get pregnant for more than 6 months. But the current idea among most gynecologists is that a couple should be advised infertility tests as soon as they become worried enough to ask for the tests.

Since your wife is ovulating as per records, you need an HSG as well as a semen analysis as the first line of infertility tests.

I hope this helps.
