I am about 10 weeks pregnant, during the month I conceived I took Xanax 0.5mg twice. I am wondering what the chances of birth defects are, is there any tests that I can have my doctor perform to make sure eveything is normal?

If they were only taken twice then chances are that early the damage if any would be minimal. Many women taking this daily have come to find they are pregnant and have had no problems with birth defects. There are blood tests, ultrasounds, and amniotic fluid tests that can be performed to check to make sure everything is normal if you attending physician feels they are necessary. Blood work and ultrasound are usually performed in all pregnancies but if there is any chance of birth defects they may choose to withdrawl some amniotic fluid which is good for determining whether any birth defects are pregnant. But in your case the chances are very good that since they were only taken twice and early that birth defects would be a a very low minimal chance due to taking this medication.
