Hi,
I just found out I'm pregnant (6wks.) and I'm having a horrible allergy attack this morning. Is it OK to take Tylenol Allergy Multi-Symptom. I know from my first pregnancy only regular Tylenol and Robitussin were allowed. I just wanted to find out what allergy meds. I could possibly take. Thank You, Kim

Hello,

Most antihistaminics are considered safe in pregnancy although they may cause you some drowsiness.

Some of the antihistaminic that you can use are OTC drugs such as chlorpheniramine (available as Chlor-Trimeton) or loratadine (available as Claritin). You can also ask your doctor for a prescription for cetirizine (available as Zyrtec and Cetiriz).

You must not use decongestants, whether nasal or oral as they contain steroids and are harmful for the baby.

You can see a list of drugs safe to use in pregnancy here: http://www.webmd.com/content/article/51/40801.htm I am giving you a short list from the website here:

Drugs that can be used in Allergy :

Benadryl

Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Tylenol Cold
Warm salt/water gargle
Saline nasal drops or spray

Sudafed, Actifed, Dristan, Neosynephrine*

Robitussin DM, Trind-DM, Vicks Cough Syrup, Romilar, Halls*

Multisystem forms or Sustaine release(SA) forms of Tylenol or any of the other drugs in the list are definitely not allowed.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
