Chlamydia in the Past, Questions about getting pregnant now.

Hello. I am 29 years old, and about 10 years ago I tested positive for chlamydia. I was treated immediately, but I am unsure of how long I had it prior to the visit. I don't think it could have been longer than a year, but I really have no idea. Anyhow, I was treated, and tested on a regular basis for all STD's(all negative--smarter choices I made) and have had regular yearly visits to the OBGYN. I always had the usual pelvic exam & pap smear, and things have always been normal. I don't have any health problems--no unusual discharge or any wierd pains. Now married and thinking about starting a family, I was doing research on PID that leads to infertilitiy. Is is even possible for me to have PID since the chlamydia was treated? Would this be something that my doctor would have noticed during pelvic exams the last 10 years? I've switched docs a few times since then too--and never was had an irregular exam. I even had an ultrasound once to check for systs because I have menstrual cramps, and she said everything looked great. What do you think? Thank you so much for your time.

You should have had abnormal pap smears for you to have PID and would have had other signs before now if there was a problem due to the past chlamydia you experienced. With it being over 10 years if everything has come back normal and you have always been given a clean bill of health then you should not have any problems with concieving. PID can lead to infertility but you would have had some symptoms or an abnormal pap smear at some point if this were the case. The cramping you experience can be normal for some women due to the bleeding during menstrual cycles which is what causes the cramping but that is nothing to be concerned about especially if you have been checked for fiberoids or cysts. I would just rest calm and enjoy trying to start a family as stress can have an impact on becoming pregnant so do not be concerned as I feel you should not have any problems with all the testing and pelvic examination that you have had. And I wish you the best of luck!!!!!!

I completely agree with Cheryl. You should have an abnormal pap smear with PID. Rest easy, you'll be fine. Make sure to make your appts with your OB/GYN for regular checkups just in case.

They are right, I totally agree. There would have been something within these last few years if you had an ongoing problem. And you would have had symptoms as well.
Happy conceiving and don't worry, you will be fine! Let us know whether it's a boy or girl.
