i have recently suspected that i am pregnant although i had a period 3 weeks ago. i have had the usual symptoms such as sickness, tender breasts, needing to urinate more often and being really tired for nearly two months now. i experienced a stabbing pain which spread from my groin to my stomach last night and this morning it appears that i have started my period and have cramp pains in my stomach. i'm not sure if i should be worried as i am usually never on my period this soon after my last one. i would be very grateful if someone could give me some advice.

noimer,

If pregnancy would have occurred, you would have initially missed a period, and experienced implantation bleeding. Implantation bleeding occurs a bit earlier than expected, and it is scanty, spotty, pinkish and not red and heavy like a period, and does not follow the normal pattern of a period (light to heavy to light). If this sounds like what you experienced, then you need to see your doctor for a blood pregnancy test, as this is the most accurate way of testing. Other reasons for period abnormalities include stress, weight gain/loss, thyroid, hormonal imbalance, infection, illness, medications, polyp, cyst, amongst other reasons. If the blood test comes back negative, your doctor can do further testing to determine what the exact cause may be.
