Not really. But if you were pregnant at any time or if you had abdominal surgery, you can have scarring inside which can be painful.

Hope this helps!

Reply to NurseElisa's Post: I've had 4 childern and each time I've either ripped or had to be cut. I know I've got scars.I just don't know how many. I don't have the pain every time, sometimes it's months before it will hurt again, and usully will go away over night, but this last time it hurt so severe I had to take pain killers and was knocked out for 2 days before it eased up enough where I could stand it. It hurt for a total of 5 days. I've been to the DR they did blood work and an urinalysis. Both checked out ok. I went to the hospital and had a trans vaginial ultra sound and sonogram and they both check out ok.This was the only thing we could come up with.

You can have internal scarring and/or endometriosis that is causing this.

Try to pinpoint by using and marking a calendar every time this happens. If you still have your period, mark this down as well.

Some women have these pains only around the time of ovulation. Others have it from the point of ovulation through the time they have their periods.

If you are perimenopausal or in menopause, take some motrin 1 hour prior to having sex. Motrin (or other brands of ibuprofen) is an anti-prostaglandin drug, so it may help decrease this type of hormone your body releases at the time of sexual encounters. Other pain medications don't have the same effect.

Sonograms only pick up certain abnormalities. Your doctor may want to do a CT scan to see the tissues and pelvic organs more clearly.

Hope this helps!
