I was supposed to start my period on Sept. 26th and I never had one, not even spotting. I'm on estrostep FE and have been for almost 2 years though. I have taken like 3 or 4 home pregnancy tests and they have all turned up negative. I'm having quite a few signs of pregnancy (sore breasts, larger nipples, slight morning sickness, and my stomach is a little bigger). I don't have insurance so I can't get a blood test, but is there and other way of finding out for sure if I'm pregnant? Thank you.

Hello,

Other than a Blood Test ( Beta HCG) and Ultrasound there is no way for a confirmation.

Are you taking estrostep FE regularly?

Reply to Dr AMIT MUNJAL's Post: I take Estrostep FE pretty regularly. Sometimes I'm up to like 12 hours late taking a pill, but I never skip pills. How high do you think the possiblity of me being at least a month pregnant and continuing to have negative HPT is? I have no insurance, so going to the dr to get a blood test would cost quite a bit. Thank you.

Hello,

Well from your history( Taking Contraceptive Regularly and negative Pregnancy test) i dont think that you are Pregnant .

Most HPTclaim up to 97 % accuracy.

The failure rate of birth control pills is 5 %. So as far as history is concerned the chances of pregnancy is rare but the symptoms are doubtful of pregnancy resulting in need of further evaluation.

Beside pregnancy there are other causes of missed period like hormonal imbalance, thyroid issue, weigh gain , weight loss, stress

Reply to Dr AMIT MUNJAL's Post: I forgot to mention that in July I was not on the pill at all. I started it again in August though. I rarely remember to take the pill at the same time every day and can sometimes be up to a day late taking it, but I double up if I do forget for that long. I really do feel that I am pregnant. I am supposed to start my period this week so I am a month late. I've been taking my pills all month though, if I am pregnant, is that bad for the baby? Also in research I've done on HPTs I read that they are 97% accurate when they say you are pregnant, but only about 50% accurate when they say that you're not. Is this true? Should I wait to see if I miss this period before going to a dr to get a blood test or ultrasound? And since the HTPs are all negative, should I skip the blood test and just get an ultra sound?

Hello,

Generally, blood tests tend to be more relied upon up to 8 weeks of the pregnancy, with ultrasounds being more useful after this time. So i wont advise to skip a blood test(Beta HCG) .

Click here to read about Beta HCG.

Well regarding accuracy of HPT , it depends on when the Test was taken .If they are taken too early than they are 85 % in accurate in detecting pregnancy . If they are taken one week after missed period they are more accurate.

But especially for your case with repeated negative HPT and symptoms of pregnancy the Best Answer is a Blood Test Beta HCG.I would suggest to skip an ultrasound but not a Beta HCG.

Reply to Dr AMIT MUNJAL's Post: What about the fact that I've continued taking Estrostep FE this past month? If I am pregnant, can that cause complications with the pregnancy or have effects on the baby?

Hello,

The American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology has done studies to prove that the pill does not cause fetal abnormalities if taken during pregnancy. Of course, you should stop taking the pill as soon as possible when you find out you are pregnant.
