I have a history of pancreatits. three times in the past three years. I am also a typre one diabetic. My first cae of pancreatits was due to gallstones and I had it removed right away. My last two cases were to to high triglycerides. Is it safe for my to try to get pregnant how much risk is involved.

Hello,

Pregnancy itself causes a rise in the triglyceride level in the blood. Since a high triglyceride level can trigger off another attack of pancreatitis, getting pregnant is risky.

You will need to be under close supervision of your doctor if you do decide to get pregnant. A pre-pregnancy blood test and repeated blood tests will be needed throughout pregnancy.

Please discuss the issue thoroughly with your doctor before deciding on pregnancy.

I hope this helps.
