Hello my friend,
I understand your concerns and I will do everything I can to help you. I am also available to answer any other questions that you may have. I myself am pregnant with my second child so I understand why you would concerned. A babys cry is their way of communicating their needs and wants to their parents. Some babies naturally cry more often than others. However premature babies are sometimes more quiet in the beginning. The reason for this is un known however it is thought to be because their lungs are slightly weaker and they use more energy to grow in the beginning. Premature babies are not as strong as they would be if they made it to full term.
If you go into a NICU where there are several premature babies you might notice that its very quiet. Even the babies who no longer have all the tubes or breathing treatments are more quiet. It has also been said that premature infants are like this because their lungs are not strong enough to develop a full cry yet. They may only make whimpering sounds and squeaks. However every baby is different and some premature infants do cry. They typically catch up to where they should be after a month or two unless they are just naturally more quiet. If he doesn't start making some cries soon I recommend that you take him to see the pediatrician for a well baby check up. They can check his lungs to be sure there are no problems.
