I am seeking psychiatric help for my husband. He has been on prozac for 20 years (now 60 mg. per day) and 4 mg. klonopin per day for two to three years. Within the last year he has become suicidal and bottomed out like I have never seen him before. I am previously a psyciatric registered nurse and in doing research on the internet I feel strongly that his medications are not helping anymore. The clonazepam is a short term medication and I feel he certainly should not have been on this medication for this length of time. We have recently moved from Oregon to Alabama and he has asked my assistance in locating a psychiatrist who specializes in withdrawal treatment. We are looking in the Birmingham. Al. area and wonder if this is the correct path to take. Please advise.
