For the past year I have been having conversations with someone in my mind. I talk to them as though they are a therapist and they give me advice. I am aware that they are not really there of course, I dont hear voices, just have conversations in my mind, but it has gotten to the point where I am doing it almost 100% of the time I am awake and not I cant stop doing this and thinking about it. Is this OCD, what could be wrong?

Dear Customer (name blocked for privacy),

When you hear voices in your head, they are auditory hallucinations and are indicative of schizophrenia. Even though these voices are not seeming to harm you in any way, you need to be evaluated by a psychiatrist because they could potentially get worse and cause you harm.

There are treatments available for schizophrenia. Medications can help stop the voices you are hearing. Please see a psychiatrist for evaluation. If you need a referral for a psychiatrist, your general doctor can help get you in to see a psychiatrist for an appointment. I suggest you do this as soon as possible.

Dear Customer (name blocked for privacy),

That's good to know that you are not actually HEARING the voices. However, you should still seek psychiatric evaluation. You may have another psychological disorder such as Attention Deficit Disorder. Nevertheless, you need to see a psychiatrist to evaluate you. When something like this is happening constantly, it disrupts your normal daily activities and therefore needs to be addressed.

You may just be a vivid "daydreamer" however, it is not healthy to live in a constant daydream having imaginary conversations. It takes away your focus of the reality of daily life and could cause harm to you in situations that require focus such as working or even driving.

Please take my suggestion to have this addressed with a psychiatrist.
