Dear friend,

This type of stich you can get removed usually after 7-10 days after stiching.

If still have any doubt left then you can ask me.

thank you!

Dear Dr. Sharma,
Thank you for replying. I know you can get stitches out in 7-10 days, but I need to know what the LONGEST amount of days I can wait to get them out is without having some sort of complication like growing in my skin. Right now it's been two weeks and since they are also sewn into my fingernail and my fingernail is growing out, it is beginning to feel very tight and uncomfortable.

Thank you.

Greetings.

The sutures you had mentioned, should be removed within 7-10 days. Any sutures kept beyond this duration predisposes them for infection. So even keeping them after 10 days would be a decision which should be taken by a physician. In some instances we do keep the occasional stitches for further duration, if healing is not complete, but that too needs to be removed as soon as possible.

So, in your case, they should have been removed within 10 days, if healing was complete. No infection even after 14 days in your case is fortunate. They should not be kept anymore. The sutures on skin surfaces should be removed within their prescribed times. Since they are on surface, they have potential to get infected anytime.

Hope this answers your query. Please feel free to ask, if you have further questions or anything is unanswered.

Kind regards,

Dr. Arun
