Hi Customer (name blocked for privacy),
As she has a history of kidney problems and is drinking plenty of fluids, that is a good start.
If she tolerates it another good idea is to use ibuprofen as that acts as an anti inflammatory and will help her pass any stones that she may have. It might also help with the pain a bit.
I've had them and the pain is worse than giving birth my women colleagues tell me who have have done both. It took all day in the e.d. and quite a bit of narcotics to get over it. Needless to say I drink a lot everyday now as they come back.
Please note, if she has a fever with the pain of a kidney stone, this becomes a more urgent problem, and she should get to the E.D. immediately.
The metallic taste is not related to the stones but more than likely she may have heartburn or G.E.R.D. (acid reflux) and that would be stomach contents possibly from the pain associated and drinking all the water.
If things get worse or she says it would help, get her seen tonight. She is worth it.
