Sent to Health Experts May 05 11:38 a.m.

I am having unexplained chest discomfort under and on the side of my left chest area. I am a 49 yr. old female who had cardiac arrest x2 in August ''07. I take lasix 10mg daily, lisinopril 2.5mg daily, and metoprolol 5mg BID. My ejection fraction is 30% as of August ''07. I am scheduled to see cardiology May 12, 2008. I have no insurance.I had a blood infection at the time I was initally diagnosed. My pulse rate is 60 and I am not having difficulty breathing. It is very uncomfortable on deep inspiration. Should I be concerned?

Hello linda

We can try to determine if the pain is of cardiac origin. You already stated it is worse when you take a deep breath in....

How long has this been going on? Where is it located and does it radiate? what does it feel like, sharp stabby pain or dull ache or pressure? does exertion seem to make it worse? does rest make it better? have you tried any medicine (tylenol nitro etc)?

It is sharp stabby.
Exertion makes it worse.
No, it does not radiate.
No, I have not medicated myself.
Should I take some naproxen?

I think that the pain you are referring to is unlikely to be of cardiac origin, I think it is very reasonable to try naproxen or ibuprofen and see if this helps. It sounds more like inflamed cartilages from exertion or strain, rather than heart issue. If it gets worse or becomes dull or achy, or you are having shortness of breath, lightheadedness, these would be more indicative of heart problems, and you need to go to ER at that time. Hope this helps sort it out and reassure, Regards
