Dr. Steve: Hi--this is Dr Steve...your name please?
Customer (name blocked for privacy): ? Hello -- this is new! Thanks for answering, Dr.
Dr. Steve: Welcome to Chat
Dr. Steve: How severe was the injury [12 yrs ago]; any fracture or torn ligaments?
Customer (name blocked for privacy): II'm just wondering if I should be giving this knee a merciless workout, or should I go for more tests?
Dr. Steve: Have you had an MRI scan done?
Dr. Steve: If not--you really should have that first
Dr. Steve: To assess the extent of damage--to cartilage, ligaments, tendons
Customer (name blocked for privacy): I don't know about ligaments. I just hoped for the best, and it seemed to get better, but a year ago, as I said, went for Xray. Nothing done since.
Customer (name blocked for privacy): MRI? it was never suggested. I could go.
Dr. Steve: Plain-film xray will NOT show the non-bony tissues [eg. ligaments, etc]
Dr. Steve: I would def. ask for MRI if I were you.
Dr. Steve: It gives SO much more info than just xray
Customer (name blocked for privacy): Then I will go. I just thought that Xray was enough, and didn't want to bother the doctor further.
Dr. Steve: I suspect there may be more of a problem than 'just arthritis'
Customer (name blocked for privacy): If it's ligaments, is it "repairable"? Can I at least keep it from getting worse?
Dr. Steve: Yes--it is...usually either surgically, or with immobilization [cast/brace]
Dr. Steve: You should get an MRI, as well as Orthopedic consult
Dr. Steve: [i.e. a knee specialist]
Customer (name blocked for privacy): THAT is a hope-giving comment! At least it is a concrete step I can take. Very good.
Dr. Steve: Glad I could help you TY
Customer (name blocked for privacy): I guess my time is up. Well, thank you, Doctor! God bless you.
Dr. Steve: I do wish you the best on this!
Dr. Steve: You're welcome...God Bless.
