Question

Approximately, how long will this pain last?

Sent to Health Experts May 07 6:08 p.m.

Around february 20, 2008 I had a flu that lasted alost a week. a few days later I felt pressure on my nech right at c-7 and a little numbness on my right forearm. I had MIR of the cervical last week because this simply became worrisome. The MRI showed the nerve root at c-7 was swollen. I took a medrol dose pack (six day treatment) and experienced a "little" relief..but I am not that much better. I do heat and ice treatments throughout the day along with advil now that I'm off the dose pack. Have you ever heard of anything like this? it's been two and a half months. Extremely uncomfortable..

Optional Information:
Female, Nevada

Already Tried:
medrol dose pack 6 day advil, traction, heat and ice, rest, physical therapy..(neck exercises mostly

Hello,

Your condition is most likly due to spondylosis of the cervical spine .

The finding of nerve swelling is possibly due to nerve compression at that level causing pain in the neck & numbness in the forearm.

Treatment is same as you are taking .

Continue with physical exercise & advil as needed.

Local injection of steroids is sometimes helpful.

In addition cervical brace or collar may be used to limit neck movement & nerve irritation.

Though it painful but most adults with cervical spondylosis will not lose nerve function.

Do you have the actual MRI report? A MRI does not have enough resolution to determine if the nerve root is swollen, so the finding must be of something else, like a disc herniation, or foraminal stenosis, or listhesis, or ligamentum flavum hypertrophy, or annular tear.

Do you have a copy of the report? The treatment of the neck depends on the pathology seen on your MRI.

The nerve root appeared 7x larger on the left than on the right of the neck when slices were revieed by radiologist...nothing significant and normal for 58 year old...good neck...so, lets say this is simply what you stated...how long does this usually...I know you cannot give me exact time frame...last?
