Occasional rash on penis after sex

Sent to Health Experts August 01, 2005 1:48 a.m.

My boyfriend and I have been having sex for 6 months now. A few months ago most of the time he gets a red painful rash on one part of his shaft after sex. It goes away several days after but occurs more often than not. Could it be caused by not enough lubrication since it doesn't occur every time? How can we fix this problem?

Leigh,

That could be the issue or also, the constant friction against the head of the penis caused some irritation which will develop into a rash.

Try more lubricant during sex and see if that helps. By the way, is there any discharge associated with the rash he gets? If so, other issues could be the problem.

Take care,
