should i have my daughters tongue clipped

my daughter is tongue tied and has some difficulty with some of her words. We recently moved and her doctors never thought this was an issue, however we now are faced with her doctors here saying she needs to have her tongue clipped and that it should have been done when she was born. She is now 5. I have many concerns regarding this and do not feel at ease yet. I have not been to the surgeon yet we are going tomorrow, however I tend not to trust surgeons as this is how they make their living. I would appreciate your imput. thank you
