The olive oil in its can got rancid. I emptied it, of course, but can't get rid of the odor. I've soaked it in soapy water, poured in boiling water, but can't get rid of the oder.

I don't want to throw the can away since I got it in NY right after 9/11.

Do you know how to get rid of the odor so I can continue to use the can?

Try soaking it in water that has a bunch of baking soda in it. The baking soda should soak up the odor. Then, I swear by dawn dish soap for cutting grease, and it has a nice smell too.
