My six-year-old daughter injured her foot or possibly her ankle during gymnastics practice one week ago. She cried for a minute, then continued practice and seemed fine. She has even played soccer since then. What concerns me is that once a day or so she mentions that is still hurts, and she continues to limp slightly. There are no outward signs of the injury (swelling, bruising, etc.) Motrin takes cares of the discomfort, but I am wondering what the injury could be, specifically. Also, should I take her to the MD, and if so, when? I had originally assumed it was a bruise and would heal in a week or so.

Hi,
I am a pediatrician.
A limp in a six year old girl, lasting for a week definitely deserves a detaield evaluation by a pediatrician. The injury could due to a ligament/ tendon sprain.
Other uncommon possibility is a Legg Calves Perthes disease
For a long list of causes you may read this excellent resource
The cause needs to be evaluated by your pediatrician, and a detailed exam PLUS tests as needed would point to the correct way,

Thank you. I will take her ASAP. Her father had indicated he did not think she needed to go to the doctor, but I wanted a professional opinion.
