i have a friend = yo male who has a type of muscle wasting

I have a friend, 70= yo male who has a type of muscle wasting disease. According to his physician it usually affect an extremity, but in his case all of his muscles are affected. The name of the disease is 2-3 words long containing a word with the letter 'P'. Any clues as to what the disease might be? ty for your help
