I have a lump in the back of my neck below base of my skull. The pain comes and goes. Some days I cant hardly turn my head. There feels like a pulling that goes from my neck to my shoulder blade and sometimes it runs down my arm. This has been going on for about a month. Can you give me any ideas about wheather it might be a pulled muscle or not.

Hi,
By what you are describing you might be having a partial cervical disc prolapse. The pain is due to pinching of the nerves supplying the muscles of your arms and shoulder. It is not a pulled muscle. You should see a health care personal immediatly, as a delay might land you into a severe problem like paralysis. In the meantime-

  • take a pain killer
  • rest
  • donot bend or lift any weight
  • donot run,jog etc.
  • no strenous work
  • if there is tingling or numbness in the arms and shoulder, go to ER immeditley.
