Question

cardiology/ echo results

Sent to Health Experts March 01, 2006 1:56 p.m.

Hello, I had a question and I was wondering if you could help me, my cardiologist says they my echo came out normal but this is what was in it,

-----------------------------------

TEST DESCRIPTION

The aortic root is normal in siz, measureing 2.9 cm across. The right ventricle is normal in size, with systolic function. The right atrium is normal in size, measuring 3.6 cm in the apical views. The left atrial volume index is normal, measuing 13.61 cc/m2. the left ventricle is normal in size, width and end-diastolic diameter of 4.3 cm, and an end-systolic diameter of .9 cm and the posterior wall measuring .9 cm across. Relative wall thickness was normal at .42 and the LV mass index was 65.8 g/m2 consistent with normal left ventricular mass.

Regional and global left ventricular ststolic function appears normal with a visually estimated ejection fraction of 65%. Mitral inflow patterns reveal an E:A ratio of 1.5, with a deceleration time of 172 msec., consistent with normal diastolic function. The Doppler derived stroke volume equals 90 ccs.

All valves appear structurally normal. The mitral valve has evidence of ststolic flattening. There is trivial tricuspid regurgitation. Right atrial pressures as assessed by IVC dynamics are normal at 5-10 mmhg. The estimated PA ststolic pressure is 32 mmhg. There is normal ststolic/diastolic flow in the pulmonary vein indication normal left atrial pressures. There is no evidence of pericardial effusion, intracavity mass, thrombi, or vegetation.

-------------------------

In particular what does the mitral valve has evidence of systolic flattening mean. And there is trivial tricuspid regurgitation, what is that, and why did he tell me that it was normal if there where theses problems? if they are. And lastly do any of these things have to do with or associated with ventricular septal defect? And are there any other problems you can see based on this info.

Thanks much for your help
