I need to take a rectal temperature on my daughter. How can I do this with minimal discomfort for her?

Put a little vaseline on the thermometer and talk with her as you insert it to keep her attention on you so she does not try and tighten up and this can help minimize the discomfort in trying to do this. You only need to stick the thermometer in about halfway and the vaseline can help to allow it to slide in easily.

On her side is the best way to miminize discomfort and she only needs to undress by taking one leg out of her pants and pulling her pants down to the knee area.
