I'm 21 and have been on Depo Provera for two

I'm 21 and have been on Depo Provera for two years. I would like to change BC methods, but when is it possible for me to start taking the pill? Can I start right after the 13 months since my last shot, or do I have to wait until I return to normal bleeding since I have not had a normal period in the past 2 years, only very little spotting?
